! BE READY TO FIGHT THE HORDE

Don't think just because I haven't posted lately that I've been up to completely mundane things. It's quite the opposite in fact. Had to get in one more Mass Effect play through before I start on Dragon Age (TUESDAY YOU GUYS). And after that only FOURTEEN DAYS TO L4D2 O_O!

Speaking of L4D2 check out the pumpkin I carved this year at Sarah's pumpkin carving party:

THATS RIGHT. THE HORDE. WITH A SMOKER IN THE MIDDLE. Here's a picture of it in progress:

Check out this awesome raven she did:

And this is Krissi's toothless drunk!Voldemort!pumpkin and Jennifer's awesome creepy one:

AND NOW BACK TO MASS EFFECT!
One of these days you guys will get a real post and the rest of my D*C update (maybe this weekend since ITS THE FIRST WEEKEND I HAVE HAD OFF SINCE D*C--and now that I received A PROMOTION this will occur EVERY WEEKEND). But for now I bring you this:

HOLY SHIT, right? This totally looks like the start of a bad porno or something. It's that black tank top of Shatner's. It reminds me when Dennis from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia turned Paddy's into a Gay Bar and pranced around for tips.... But I love how De is just like smoking his cigarette and drinking his coffee or whatever.

Also, THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME PICTURE YOU WILL EVER SEE EVER. I know its been making the rounds again but whatever. HERE YOU GO:

Dragon*Con 2009 Report - Friday Part I

YES. FRIDAY! THE FIRST OFFICIAL DAY OF DRAGON*CON HAD ARRIVED AND WHAT DID THAT MEAN? YOU GUESSED IT. THE WILLIAM SHATNER/ LEONARD NIMOY PANEL OF GQMF AWESOMENESS.

Friday came pretty early for Sara and me. I woke her up before the alarm even had a chance to go off at six. Within twenty minutes we were both dressed and ready to head out for the William Shatner/ Leonard Nimoy panel of awesome at ten that morning. That's right. We headed out FOUR HOURS EARLY.

Now I have to throw out a huge thanks to Sara for going to the panel with me even though she's not into Trek so much: SO THANK YOU SARA <33333

Since we stayed in the Marriott and the Panel was over in the Hyatt we only had a to walk across the street. As we passed the Hyatt pool and opened the doors leading into the lobby area just outside of the Centennial Ballroom. The line began down an intersecting hallway and at first I feared it had already grown to some crazy number and my heart was skipping. We followed it down a short corridor, up a few stairs and out into a sort of alcove. Lucky for us, we stopped there, right next to one of the side entrances to the Hyatt. We were maybe fortyish people back. So we were definitely getting in. YES! For the next two and a half hours we got to sit and take pity on all the people who didn't get up as early as we did, especially the ones that got in line at, say, eight and watch them walk half a block or more to the end of the line. If you don't believe how crazy it was look at this video! You can Sara and I around the :50ish mark.

<lj-embed id="13" />
I don't have a lot to say about the panel itself except IT WAS AMAZING. I ended up being in the first official row (the first two were set aside for people with disabilities) .They were like an old married couple and played off each other pefectly. I love how Nimoy was the voice or reason for Shatner many, many times. Especially when Shatner was poking at the audience. See 3:50 in the video below. But I think my faovirte was when Shatner pouted because the audience member wanted to ask a specific question of Nimoy and he TURNED HIS CHAIR COMPLETELY AROUND.

Here's a video of a few of the best moments from the panel:

<lj-embed id="14" />
Or if you really want to see the whole thing (AND YOU KNOW YOU DO) you can do that HERE.

After the panel, I was in a sort of dream state. Whether is was the total lack of sleep from the night before or the fact that I was in the presence of two of the orignial GQMFs for an hour, who knows. But the rest of the day I'm pretty sure I was grinning like an idiot in true Star Trek fangirl fashion <3.

Dragon*Con 2009 - Thursday

Thursday. Ahhhh. Can you feel it? I've been out of bed five minutes and already that geek compass of mine is bekoning me home. Do you hear it? It's coming from the fraking city of Atlanta, whispering the sweetest phrase known to man in my ear:

Dragon*Con.

I stretch and fold the covers back, tip-toeing across my room and into the hall. Not because I'm worried about waking up everyone in the house, but because my pre-con mess has completely taken over my room. But who cares. It's travel day and in t-minus fourteen hours I would be reunited with the best friends a geek chic could possibly have.

After weighing and reweighing my bag, I finally decide that forty-eight pounds is the lightest its ever going to get and pray to the travel gods that my bag is still under fifty pounds when they weigh it at check-in. As I pack all my stuff into the car, I complain briefly about not being able to just beam over to Dragon*Con via transporter. Sorry, Doctor McCoy. The transporter can split my atoms all it wants to if it means getting to D*C faster. Just as I leave my subdivision and set out towards Shreveport to catch my flight, the rain begins. While I'm happy there's no hurricane looming on the horizon, I was really hoping for Sunny skies.

Nothing of interest happened between parking at the airport and getting on the plane. Well except for an amusing exchange of text messages between Emily and me. I'm not exactly sure how it started but this is where it ended up:

The airport was quite cold. And by quite I mean IT WAS LIKE HOTH OR GODDAMN DELTA VEGA in there. Emily let me know she was at the airport so I replied letting her know I was as well. I also complained about the weather(OMG YOU GUYS JUST LIKE THE TWILIGHT ACTORS -_-) and the temperature of the airport itself. Somehow Emily fell under the impression that she could control the weather.

Me: Alright, Storm, make it warmer in here and make it stop raining.
Emily: No. I'm a mean god.
Me: Please? Be a merciful god.
Emily: No.
Me: Fine. No more sacrifices for you.
Emily: Come on, just one little sacrifice? Please?
Me: No. Not unless you make it stop raining and make it warmer as a show of faith and goodwill.
Emily: Ugh. Fine. Here. Have some sunshine.
Me: Thank you. Now let me just go round up a couple of virgins....

Finally I escaped fucking Hoth and boarded the plane. I sat next to a Nick Nolte look-a-like! It was pretty awesome. He even sounded like him a little bit when he said "Hunny, why don't you put your bag into the overhead bin? It'll leave more room for your feet." Then he flirted with the Flight Attendant and made fun of the way she did the pre-flight announcements.

About an hour and a half later we were landing in Atlanta and I could see the downtown skyline. My mind was filled with joy and I found myself muttering the phrase DRAGON*CON DRAGON*CON DRAGON*CON DRAGON*CON in my head until I walked onto the tarmac and felt that Hotlanta sunshine warming my cheeks. (See for us small town folks they don't even roll us up to a breezeway. We get to take the steep stairs off the plane and hike back into the terminal).

With my geekself all in a flutter, I weaved through the very busy concourse 'D' ("As in Delta," giggled the flight attendant--who thought she was being funny because I flew Delta) and scrambled onto the airport tram. That was the setting for the following conversation:

Me (action): Nearly falls over because she forgets how fast this tram actually goes. Grabs onto pole just in time.
Dude in Kilt ): Talks to friend in low voice.
Dude in The Avengers shirt: Replies to friend in Kilt.
Older couple on the opposite side of me. Let's call them The Kents (cause they so looked like Superman's Earth Parents from the Dean Cain TV show): *whisper* Look! He's wearing a kilt! How neat is that? A Kilt!
Me (to the dudes): Dragon*Con?
Dudes: YES! DRAGON*CON!
Dude in Kilt: Dragon*con?
Me: YES DRAGON*CON!
All three of us: YATTA!**

**okay so we didn't all say YATTA! But you could tell we were all thinking it. Really!

Then I met up with these hos: Emily and Sara. We grabbed my bag from the carousel and hit the Marta. I guess Sara's suitcase looked particulary heavy to the Marta attendant.

Attendant: That's right hit that button right there. And you're done!
Sara: Thank you. UGH. THis bag is so heavy!
Attendant: Woah. How many costumes did you bring?
Sara: Like four! And, euh, they're kind of heavy.
Attendant: Haha, well, you ladies have a good time at the convention!

Once we got off the marta, the excitement was palpable. We rode the ten-mile long escalator from the Peachtree station into the Peachtree Center. We navigated through the hampster tunnels and finally there we were. Inside the Marriott! Home at last! We all exchanged our own exclamations of glee and hopped into the elevator where we rode to room 2128. There Heather and Nate were already lounging around the room with Dragon*Con TV. COMPLETE WITH SOUND! Which we did not have last year. It was glorious.

We all geeked out for a moment and then decided it was badge time. I must of had Wrackspurts in my brain or something because I thought I purchased my badge way back when they first went on sale. After pilfering through my room and financial records THE DAY BEFORE CON I discovered that I hadn't. So Ticketmaster was my only option other than on-site. Why I decided to just go with Ticketmaster, I have no idea. But I did. And boy did I choose wrong.

We stood outside the Sheraton for about twenty minutes. They were letting people into the hotel a few at a time so not to overcrowd the corridors or break fire code. We marked the time, 4:10, so we would know preicsely how long our badges took. Soon enough we reached the portion of the line where everyone splits into their respected methods of purchase. I, being the one made of complete Fail, split from the rest of the group to follow the green line. The Ticketmaster line. The green tape on the floor ran in two directions. After following the incorrect one, I finally stumbled across the line--which extended so far beyond the green tape that it ran into the line for VIP badge pick. And by line for VIP badge pickup I mean the door to enter because, come on. Everyone knows there's no line for VIP badge pickup. It's all Guests or their Staff and Eternal Members and there just aren't that many people. Although, I DID GET TO SEE ROUGE OF CRUXSHADOWS PICK UP HIS BADGE. I grab my phone to text Heather and let her know, but I have no signal. Great.

About forty minutes later I've moved maybe fifteen feet. The line is more or less at a dead stand still and people are getting a little uneasy. A few even get out of line. I check my phone again, but still have no signal. About ten minutes later someone drops by to inform us that the ticktmaster computer systems are down. They also explain there are only two ticketmaster computers and hundreds of people in line. Awesome.

The Sheraton people are smart. They start sending a guy through selling water, beer and energy drinks. I decide I'm thirsty so I grab a water. The guy in front of me decides he's ready to start partying so he grabs a beer. Then he loosens up and starts talking to the other guy in front of me. Then the other guy in front of me decides if he's going to wait in line he might as well be drinking a beer. Then they both start talking and I decide I'm not spending the next two hours staring into space so I join they're conversation. This was the best idea I'd had all day. Not only were these guys hilarious, but they were getting buzzed and talkative. A couple more beers later, we came to a spot where our green line crossed over the blue one. Guy number one says "You come to a river. Do you ford or float?" And Dude 2 and I lost it because any Oregon Trail reference is awesome.

About two and a half hours after getting in line, a volunteer finally explains to us what's going on. Apparently Ticketmaster did not get the information to Dragon*Con when they were supposed to, thus getting the data adjusted in the system took longer than the slated 4pm registration opening. On top of that only two computers could run the Ticketmaster Data. They did finally adjust this and open seven stations. we all rejoiced, signed a petition for ticketmaster and the two guys and I continued talking. Then the computers went down. Again. And Dude number one offered to buy Dude number 2 and I beers. But then the computers came back up and finally we were inside the actual ballroom where you get your ticket. At this point Sara magically showed up! They'd gotten their badges and she was a little concerned since none of us had cell service. She waited in line the rest of the way with me, which lasted about fifteen to twenty more minutes. I give all of my info to the volunteers and head over pick up my badge. Where there are about fifty people. In a huge clusterfuck. Waiting for their badges. I found the guys I'd talked with in line and stand around with them. Maybe we should have taken Dude 1 up on his beer offer afterall.

But then something amazing happened.

"A-P-H-Y? Where are you? Aphy? Come get your badge!"

There are a lot of groans from people who'd been waiting in line for something like thirty minutes just to pick up their badge. But I didn't fucking care. I had my badge and convention had officially started. I bid goodbye, good luck, and a great convention to the awesome guys in front of me and left with Sara in search of Heather, Nate, Emily and food. The total time it took to get my badge? Three hours and twenty-seven minutes.

We walked over to the food court and ate at Moe's. I'd never eaten at one before, but man was it good.

This should totally be the promotional poster for Moe's!

After the food court it was time for Heather to meet up with some other awesome people for the traditional Young Jedi Knights photoshoot. This is always hilarious and adorable.

And of course the family photo:

I love this Han! And the whole Jacen/Jaina always fight. It's foreshadowing = WIN.

Shortly after this picture Sara and I head upstairs to get some sleep. We were getting up super early to stand in line for the Shatner/Nimoy panel the next day. And by Super Early I mean Super Early. Like before Six AM. So we fell asleep to DCTV and I had a dream where I sat third row in a room that holds 2500 for the most amazing panel in the history of Dragon*Con....

Also I want to share this text message I got from my good friend Ashley today. I bring her back things from convention each year. Last year I got her a Stark Industries Visitor badge. This year I followed the tradition and bestowed upon her two more badges of equal geekery, a Stark Industries Employee Parking Permit and an Enterprise Capitan Kirk ID card.

Ashley's text: So this last year I was just a visitor at Stark Industries, but now I'm an employee. They must of heard that I'm the captain of the Enterprise. It has advantages I guess =)

<33 This is why we are friends, yes?

To Make Love To The Mountain....
I am officially back from Dragon*<strike>Khaaaaaaan </strike> Con! A post full of quotes, pictures, and recaps will be up shortly but for now I leave you with my favorite thing from D*C this year besides the man himself: SHATNER OF THE MOUNT.

In Star Trek V, Capitan Kirk is climbing El Capitan in Yosemite. In the DVD extras he talks about why people climb mountains. The band Fall On Your Sword mashed it up and put it to their music. THIS:

<lj-embed id="11" />
Dragon*Con t-minus 7 days!

In Preparation for <strike>Khan </strike> Con (and because there are always Furries there):

And in other news, I've been playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic again. It amazes me that even though I haven't played this game in a couple of years, I can sit down and remember exactly where I need to go for what mission, who I need to talk to, and the quickest way to get there. I couldn't tell you how many times I've played through that game because, frankly, I lost count somewhere around a dozen. I just know its a LOT. But even despite these facts, it still takes me six hours and forty-five minutes to get the fuck off Taris. That's the only part of the game I ever get bored with. Especially in the Undercity and inside the sewers with all the damn Gammorean Slavers and Rakghouls. If it wasn't for Carth consantly providing the LOL with his "Let me ask you some questions, this doesn't add up for me. I don't trust you. Or them. Or anything EVER AGAIN. How are you the only one to survive from the Endar Spire? Why are you so special? What do you mean how did I survive? I'm a war hero! A career man! Plus this orange jacket provides, like, +20 sexterity so..." Oh Bioware. You definitely own my soul. <3

p.s. Am I the only one that hated Bastila for the entire first half of the game?
How About Goodbye.

So I'm on my sixth replay of Mass Effect. Pretty much all of you know how much I fucking love this game. The replay got me all keyed up for Mass Effect 2. I know a few of you on my list enjoyed this game as much as I did so I thought I'd share my findings.

Here's the teaser trailer Pre-E3:

<lj-embed id="6" />

And the Post E-3 Reveal:

<lj-embed id="10" />
OMG, RIGHT?

Amass an elite team of assassins and badasses. Go on what can only be described as a suicide mission to save humanity. And Prove.Them.Wrong.

I love the fact that Bioware actually listened to the fans. The Uncharted Worlds were great and all, but after a while maneuvering the Mako and constant excavation of debris, mineral deposits and anomalies followed by combat geth/Cerbrus/scientists/rogue biotoics grew a little monotonous. Especially since most of the worlds looked similar and seemed to add relatively little to the main storyline. I'm excited for the new, diverse uncharted planets and the fact that these worlds, though still optional, will impact the story even more. Those decisions count toward the ending. IN WHICH SHEPARD CAN ACTUALLY DIE. FOR GOOD.

The idea of every decision you make contributing to the end, to the survival of Normandy's commander and crew has my fangirlish delight off the charts. Not to mention the new integration of the interrupt option:

<lj-embed id="7" />

This combined with:

Heavy Weapons (INCLUDING A ROCKET LAUNCHER YOU GUYS. WITH GUIDED MISSILES)
Advanced AI Combat.
New Alien Races
Decisions and choices that your Shepard made from the first game being incorporated into ME2 (The characters killed in ME are just as dead in ME2)
The appearance of Squad Members from ME

JUST. kjl;fdsaj;kfas YES.

I'm totally okay waiting until Q1 of 2010 for this game or however long it takes for Bioware to feel assured they're delivering the best game possible. Bioware created two of my favorite video games of all time and hasn't disappointed me yet <strike>except not developing Knights of the Old Republic II. </strike>

I woke up right at eight o'clock this morning to catch the Andy Roddick vs. Roger Federer match. I like tennis. Even more than I like tennis, I like Andy Roddick. Not because he's kinda hot, tall and can serve over 150mph (though those totally are factors) but mostly because of the video below.. As I'm sure you all know by now, this match was nothing short of epic. The fifth set alone lasted ninety-five minutes. Federer's final four points, scored in three minutes, defined the entire four hour and sixteen minute match. Federer struggled against Roddick's serve the entire match, especially when he sent them straight at Federer. Those serves were simply unreturnable. Roddick played his absolute best, but in the end Federer was simply better....today.

When Roddick was asked if he struggled to stay positive after losing the second set, he replied: “You know, at that point, like everything else, there's two options: you lay down or you keep going. The second option sounded better to me."

<333. Also this:

<lj-embed id="4" />
The boy was so upset, yet HE STAYED CLASSY. He joked, he congratulated Federer, he even showed a little determination. That's the way it should be-- ATTN: JOHN MCENROE

Also did anyone else hear in the news that Rupert Grint (this kid-> ) ended up with Swine Flu? How bizarre is that?

Let me tell you about my day.
I get a frantic call around 9:15am from my boss who says my coworker is sick and she cannot find a replacement. Now, on Saturdays the Arts Center is staffed by only two people. We are not allowed to be open with just one person as we are in downtown and the area overall is a bit dodgy. My boss told me to please, please get there early and open up the building. She would come down herself if she had to. I hop out of bed, throw on the nearest thing I can find and make it to work at 9:35. I turn on lights, open up the building and basically get us ready to open for the day. When 9:55 comes and goes, then 10:00 (which is when we actually open) I decided to give my boss a call.

"Oh, yes. I'm terribly sorry, Ashley, but Bryan said we could close today. I absolutely cannot find anyone to cover Kristin's shift. I'm sorry to you put you out like that, but that's how it has to be. Just hang a sign on the door. Have a good day. Sorry again!"

....okay. So basically because of that I got screwed out of seven hours of work that I won't get paid for. Instead just the half hour it took to open and close the building and write out the damn sign. This whole story is very reminiscent of the time Hurricane Ike rolled through town...

FAIL.

11:30pm. On a Tuesday.

Oh Expedia, I love you.

Just booked the hotel for July's trip to Florida. With Expedia's 24 hour hotel sale plus the coupon I redeemed from the Pittsburgh trip last April, I essentially ended up with an entire night for free.

If only everything else in life were this simple.

On a completely unrelated topic, I need some It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. RIGHT. NOW.
